Lewis and Clark Education Day Field Trip
Today we went on our last field trip of the year to the Lewis and Clark Education Day. This event was planned to be a mostly outside event and I got a call first thing this morning that most of the outside displays had to be cancelled due to a very rainy day. We were invited to come anyway and go in the interpretative center. When we got there we found that many exhibits were setting up inside and some were still happening outside in the rain. The rain did not stop us, we put our trash bags on as raincoats and learned lots about the fort, guards cabin and settlers cabin. We were told we were the first group to ever view the new settlers cabin display. We then went into the interpretive center and looked all around and went to all the exhibits set up in there and saw a movie on Lewis and Clark. One of the favorite things was we got to see a Newfoundland dog named Seaman just like the dog on the Lewis and Clark's expedition. We beaded necklaces, saw a blacksmith, watched a broom maker, saw all different types of rocks and minerals, saw how rope is made, and saw a replica of Lewis and Clark's boat. We ended up back at school a little earlier than planned due to the rain, but we had a picnic lunch in our classroom on the floor.
